Bryn Williams (b. 1966) lives and works in Los Angeles, CA. She creates paintings and collages that reimagine aspects of her black female identity through an exploration of the many parts and layers which could comprise the system of self. By applying the concept of superposition to her subjects, Williams blurs the artificial boundary between self and and not self. She utilizes non traditional materials and combines figures and landscapes in her work to reimagine a vast, rich and intricate new understanding of self that is valuable, vital, central and profoundly interconnected with all that is. Williams’ work investigates a way to understand reclamation as an active process.

Williams studied at Mount Holyoke College and Santa Monica College, but is largely self taught. Williams’ work has been exhibited is numerous group shows including: Summer Camp, Shockboxx Gallery (2023); Kaleidoscope, Arc Gallery and Studios - Online (2023); Perceive You, Shoebox Arts - Online (2022); Small Wonders, Maryland Federation of Art (2021); Visions of Self, Yosemite Arts- Online (2020); Out There & Open Show, Gallery 825 (2019, 2018). In addition, Williams’ work has been displayed at Ten Women Gallery in Santa Monica, CA and can be found in private collections in California, Rhode Island, Washington, DC and Florida.
